Road Safety Minister commemorates road crash victims
Friday, 16 November 2007

Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick will mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday, 18 November.

The day, organised by RoadPeace and endorsed by the United Nations, is observed on the third Sunday of November every year.

Jim Fitzpatrick, who will attend a multi-faith service at St James's Church, Piccadilly, London, on Sunday, said:

"The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims provides an important opportunity to commemorate those who have lost their lives on the roads. Each death is a tragedy and my sincere condolences go to families and friends who have lost a loved one.

"The number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads in Great Britain has fallen significantly in recent years but clearly there is no acceptable level and we need to continue working to make our roads safer."
