Postcomm reviews Royal Mail request on notice period for changes to Sameday service
Tuesday, 21 November 2006

Postcomm, the independent postal services regulator, is seeking views on Royal Mail’s application for an exemption from the notification requirements of its licence for changes to its Sameday service.

Condition 7 of its licence requires Royal Mail to notify Postcomm of any changes to existing prices and services three months before they are introduced and to publish information about such changes after this notification.

In October 2006, Royal Mail applied to Postcomm for an exemption from this requirement for changes to its Sameday service on the basis that this service operates in a competitive market.

It is important for Postcomm to get the views of other postal operators, postal users, Postwatch, trade associations and other interested parties operating in the postal service industry, and the regulator will carefully consider these views in making its decision on Royal Mail’s request.
