All UK lorry operators must have an Operator Licence – an O-licence. But failure to conform to the necessary roadworthiness, driver management and general operating regulations can restrict, or even jeopardise, the continuity of the licence and thus the ability to continue to run vehicles. The management of a lorry fleet and the maintenance of the right standards is therefore vital. The Freight Transport Association provides a range of record keeping, tachograph and vehicle inspection schemes designed to support lorry operators in maintaining the required standards which are constantly changing.
