Lorry operators - how to keep your O-licence PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 03 September 2007

All UK lorry operators must have an Operator Licence – an O-licence. But failure to conform to the necessary roadworthiness, driver management and general operating regulations can restrict, or even jeopardise, the continuity of the licence and thus the ability to continue to run vehicles. The management of a lorry fleet and the maintenance of the right standards is therefore vital.

The Freight Transport Association provides a range of record keeping, tachograph and vehicle inspection schemes designed to support lorry operators in maintaining the required standards which are constantly changing.

This year’s autumn season of FTA Transport Manager seminars will take a close look at the latest enforcement and O-licensing developments and keep managers up-to-date with current requirements, including:

Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) and enforcement targeting

Production of records at the roadside

    Graduated fixed penalties

Abolition of discs and removal of 28-day period of grace

Traffic Commissioner Practice Directions - what they are and how they work/use as a compliance management tool

FTA’s 2007 Transport Manager seminars run from September to December at locations throughout the country. Other subjects covered on the agenda include driver licensing, Driver CPC, workplace transport safety, the safety and security of loads, delivery access issues, the management of shifts – how to avoid driver fatigue, engine technology and how to reduce your carbon footprint.
