The sun was shining on Leicester on Saturday 4th August when approximately 20 floats and several hundred dancers paraded through the streets. Very close to the front, just third in line in the parade, was the Pall-Ex and Vipers Rugby Football Club float, the familiar silver, orange, and red of Pall-Ex vehicles adorned in green and yellow, the rugby club colours, made a wondrous multi coloured display which echoed the fantastically multicultural celebration that the parade represented. The Caribbean Carnival is an annual festival celebrating cultural diversity across the city of Leicester, and commences every year with a parade through the city centre to rest in Victoria Park where there are a number of stalls, displays, and activities. The Vipers Rugby Club, situated in Whetstone has 3 senior teams, a women’s team, and some teams for youngsters. The Vipers teams supplied the trimmings for the float which was created on the Friday before the big day. On the day, lorry driver Dave Freakley of Pall-Ex, who is one of the drivers from the in house fleet, drove the vehicle through the city.
