Dublin-based Ace Express Freight buys new Ecodeck trailers from Deker PDF Print E-mail

Deker has announced its first international sales with two new Ecodeck Fuel Saver trailers supplied to Ace Express Freight. The Dublin-based freight forwarders chose Deker’s multi-deck stepframe curtainsiders because of their excellent fuel efficiency. The trailers’ overall height of 4.65M also made them ideal for use through the new Dublin tunnel and for daily ferry operations to the UK.

Ace Express is Eire’s number one pallet network. The company operates out of a 250,000 sq ft site in Lusk, Dublin, and currently employs 85 people. Established in 1988, Ace Express operates in all 32 Irish counties and has up to 20 vehicles collecting and delivering in the UK every day.

The aerodynamically designed sloping roof trailers from Deker are already producing at least 10% reduction in fuel consumption for Ace Express. “With anything up to 20 vehicles travelling to Dublin from depots in Essex, Birmingham, Leicester, Bradford and Glasgow every day, we are in a good position to see what effect the Ecodeck trailers are having on fuel consumption,” says Mark Tracey, Commercial Director at Ace Express. “The fuel savings are proving to be very significant already.” The company is also keen to improve its green credentials by making its operations more environmentally friendly. Using the multi-deck trailers also helps to increase the lorry fill and cut down “empty miles.”

Ace Express is also pleased with the reduced height of the trailers which allows them to use the newly opened Dublin Port Tunnel, which has a height restriction. This takes around an hour off each journey and allows the drivers to use a route which has no traffic lights. Ace Express took the first commercial vehicle with its Deker Ecodeck trailer through the tunnel when it opened in December 2006.

The Ecodek trailer combines the new aerodynamic design with Deker’s popular flexible multi-deck construction. The curtain-siders are internally fitted with re-arrangeable decks for optimal loading without stacking. This solution is proving to be very popular with hauliers like Ace Express as it guarantees the integrity of the palletised load by eliminating the need to stack pallets on top of one another. The Deker design also incorporates a mesh upper deck that provides excellent visibility for easier and safer loading and unloading. This also reduces potential freight damage and risk of toppling.

“We chose Deker Trailers because they were able to show us the economic benefits and provide us with the size and specification of trailer we needed to improve our operational efficiency,” says Mark Tracey. “We will certainly be seriously considering buying further Deker trailers when our vehicles are due for replacement.”

Deker Trailers supplies and supports a range of multi-deck stepframe trailers for transport operators. The company is committed to providing innovative quality products with a choice of flexible acquisition options and after-sales support services. Options are tailored to the customer’s requirements and designed to deliver increased operating efficiency and financial benefits. The sloping roof profile of Deker’s new Ecodek trailer has been aerodynamically designed to give the best fuel consumption performance possible and has been shown to achieve up to 12% savings on fuel consumption.

Deker Managing Director Paul Sanders comments: “The Ecodeck trailer is proving very popular in the UK, but it is especially rewarding for us now to have made our first international deals. This is the first step towards selling more trailers into mainland Europe where their energy efficient profile will be particularly welcomed.”

Deker also has a range of financing options for both new and used sales – from HP purchase, dynamic contract hire options, ECO and OPTI hire packages and leasing packages to spot hire to help operators cover peaks in demands or maintenance downtime. Spot hire is available short or long term from one day to one year with various options on offer. Repair and maintenance contracts are also flexible to suit individual haulier’s needs and are becoming increasingly popular with operators. Paul Sanders comments: “We work with our customers to ensure the most cost-effective solution for their particular operations – everyone’s different and we have a lot of experience in finding what is right for each. It’s a challenge we enjoy.”

Deker compliments the successful truck and trailer rental and sales business Allports Truck Centre, Commercial Vehicle Rental and Truck City which is a highly successful organisation with a fast-growing customer base, located at Fradley Park in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
