New Sprinter adds up to a smart package PDF Print E-mail

ImageOban Express Parcel Service has received a first-class delivery of its own, in the shape of three new Mercedes Sprinter vans.

The 313CDI Long chassis cabs are the latest additions to the 37-strong fleet of the Argyll-based express delivery company.

Supplied by Glasgow dealer Western Commercial, they are fitted with Luton box bodies, by LVB Coachbuilders of Bathgate.

Oban Express bought its first Sprinter more than a decade ago and the new arrivals bring to 17 the number that it now has on the road.

Partner Walker Owens says: “We have remained loyal to the Sprinter because it has proved over the years to be the best-in-class in terms of driver comfort, payload efficiency and reliability.

“There really is no competition,” he continues. “Mercedes vans can be a little bit more expensive ‘up front’ compared to rival products, but over the medium and longer term we more than recoup this premium through their lower operating costs and high residual values.”

Oban Express was founded with just two vans. When Tommy Owens passed away on October 1st, his son Walker and daughters Lorraine and Louise took up the reins.

In addition to its Sprinters, Oban Express runs a fleet of trucks, most of which are also Mercedes – six Atego 7.5-tonners, three 18-tonne Axor trucks and four Actros tractor units.

Oban Express’s Sprinter drivers clock up an average of 60,000 miles per year, making deliveries throughout Scotland for the UK’s biggest parcels companies. The vans carry packages of many different shapes and sizes, ranging from small packets to large rolls of carpet.
