CitySprint Director Speaks About Award Winning Environmental Programme PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 06 July 2009

ImageAm Pall, CitySprint's Fleet & Specialist Services Director, was invited to speak about CitySprint's award winning environmental programme at this year’s Mail & Express Delivery Show. On the 16th June 2009 Am shared CitySprint's experiences of developing its ISO14001:2004 accredited environmental programme and discussed how other operators can also gain their green credentials.

The 2009 Mail & Express Delivery Show focused around the industry's response to customers in the economic downturn. The event examined how the UK industry is coping with recession and what action it is taking to work in partnership with customers as the economic climate worsens. It also addressed a series of key issues, including the environmental challenges, which need to be considered during a recessionary period.

CitySprint has, for a long time, been committed to minimising the impact its day-to-day operations have on the environment. CitySprint’s environmental programme covers all aspects of its business and focuses on both the internal and external impacts.

As part of its environmental programme CitySprint continuously looks for new vehicle options and innovative solutions which are both environmentally friendly and commercially viable. CitySprint does not charge clients a premium for using green vehicle options and in many cases they are provided at a reduced cost. CitySprint's environmentally friendly fleet includes pushbikes, CityTrikes (human powered vehicles), electric vehicles, Smart Cars and alternative fuel vehicles. CitySprint has also taken its environmental programme one step further by developing a tool which offers clients the opportunity to assess, reduce and even offset their own carbon footprint.

CitySprint's environmental programme has been accredited with the internationally recognised ISO14001:2004, a voluntary initiative aimed at improving environmental performance and has also won a number of industry environmental awards including the 'Environmental Improvement' award at the 2008 European Supply Chain Excellence Awards, the 2007 TfL Private Sector "Capital Fleet of the Year" at the 2007 GreenFleet awards, the 2007 IFW 'Environment Award' and the 'Corporate Social Responsibility' award at the 2007 UK Mail Awards. CitySprint has also recently been shortlisted for the 'Environment Award' at the 2009 Motor Transport Awards.
