City Link is distributing free of charge all the official promotional goods for the UK’s first ever “National Family Week” this half-term. The company is supporting the week which aims to bring families closer together and is backed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. A host of family-friendly events is being planned, with the spectacular bid to hold the world’s biggest picnic taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25. Families, groups of friends and community groups are being encouraged to sign up officially for the attempt which will be validated by the Guinness Book of Records. City Link, which has nearly 6,000 Employees working out of 85 Depots and a fleet of 3,000 vehicles, will deliver hundreds of packs of promotional material the length and breadth of the UK. Stuart Godman, Sales and Marketing Director at the Surrey-based Company, said: “National Family Week is a marvellous new idea which really struck a chord with our Colleagues at City Link. “Families are so busy these days that the activities during National Family Week will give them a great opportunity to spend time together, have fun, and enjoy the Bank Holiday and half-term break. “Our Customers and the local community are at the heart of everything we do at City Link and we are delighted to offer our services free of charge to this worthwhile enterprise.” Anyone who is hosting an event for National Family Week – including those organising their own picnic to join in the world record attempt – will receive a parcel if they register on the National Family Week website. Parcels will include free posters, balloons, stickers, tee-shirts and in some cases, banners, to publicise the events. For those needing to stake out their territory in a public space, there will even be rolls of cordon tape. Supernanny Jo Frost, child psychologist Prof Tanya Bryan, Olympic double gold-medal winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington and Childline founder Esther Rantzen are among the celebrities who are supporting National Family Week.
